Consultation has concluded

Thank you to our community members who provided input to help inform our draft Community Engagement Strategy 2022-2026 by completing our feedback form. This consultation closed at 11.59pm Thursday 24 November 2022.

BACKGROUND

The Local Government Act 1993 states Council must prepare and implement a Community Engagement Strategy based on social justice principles for engagement with the local community.

At a minimum, the Community Engagement Strategy must identify relevant stakeholder groups within the community and outline methods of engaging each group and give due consideration to the expected levels of service expressed by the community during this consultation.

The Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework (IP&R) is underpinned by strong effective and meaningful engagement. The Community Engagement Strategy sets out Council’s position relating to engagement with all stakeholders, including community members, businesses, state agencies and non-government organisations.

Engaging with these varied stakeholders is essential to creating plans that truly represent the needs and aspirations of the local community. This Strategy will also be used during the development of the Community Strategic Plan and Council’s other planning activities.

The first stage of the Community Strategic Planning process is to prepare a Community Engagement Strategy. The strategy must allow for public participation at various stages of the planning process and identify key stakeholder groups within our community.

The draft Community Engagement Strategy 2022-2026 has been prepared by Council’s Communications Team, through a comprehensive process that included a Councillor briefing in early October.

Now that the draft has been endorsed by Council, community members are invited to provide feedback during this 28-day public exhibition period. Following this consultation, all community feedback and required amendments will be presented to Council for their approval and final adoption.
